Denmark (continued)

On four of the 10 trips to Danmark, Nancy and I served as tour guide for other family members and friends. In all four cases, we spent 10 days showing other Americans what we so loved about Danmark. First it was my cousin, Perry, and his wife, Jean. Then it was my son and his first wife, Sandy. Then my daughter and her family. Then it was friends from Maine, Chris and Prudy, that we knew from winters at Shady Brook. From research I had done, I found that Chris’ grandfather was born about 20 miles from where my grandfather was born. On the tour we took them to a farmstead that was part of his family at one time. We also found and introduced him to a second cousin. They knew nothing about each other until I had the privilege of bringing them together albeit entirely by happenstance. The new owner of the farm told us that Chris’ relative had died but his wife lived in a nearby town. The wife was not a blood relative of Chris', but he still wanted to meet her so we found the wife’s home and her daughter just happen to be visiting her mother. I asked if her name was Alice and when she said "yes", I turned to Chris and said, “Chris met your second cousin Alice.” Both were very surprised. After coffee with Alice's mother, Alice invited all of us to dinner at her home and we had a wonderful evening.
